Keywords Keywords or key phrases are what drives search engine results. When we use sites like Google we type words into it. We want our website to come up first for the keywords that are most relevant to the search. Several years ago people used to just put the keywords all over their website to ‘trick’ or ‘game’ the search results. This is a dangerous thing to do and spammy use of keywords on a page is called keyword stuffing. The best thing to do is name your page and page title with the keyword then place relevant content on the page writing for humans not search engine robots. Longer phrases (sometimes called ‘long tail keywords’) are easier to rank for and can have a more targeted buyer (commercial intent). Short keyword phrases (short tail) like ‘golf’ bring more traffic, are hard to rank for and are less targeted. You should aim for a balance of traffic versus commercial intent.
